Purpose/Function/Scope
Mud Bay's District Managers contribute to, and ultimately ensure, the success of Mud Bay's retail managers by selecting the right people and by giving each the appropriate education, tools and support. District Managers work with knowledge, integrity and honesty to promote the mission, core values an brand promise of Mud Bay.
Primary Accountabilities
- The Manager's District has the right managers and managers-in-training in place.
- Develops retail managers by assuring they have the education, tools and support needed to realize their stores' quarterly and annual plans, achieve same-store-growth and lead happy, efficient, Mud Bay-style workplaces.
- Store staff and Mud Bay's administrative staff communicate and collaborate effectively with each other.
- Retail managers in the District understand, contribute to, and focus their efforts on executing Mud Bay's retail strategy.
- Assists the Director of Human Resources in assuring that Mud Bay's leadership is kept aware of emerging issues, trends and opportunities in human resource practice areas.
Additional Accountabilities
- The tools and information used by retail managers and store staff in operating their stores are complete, current and as perfect as we can make them (accountability shared with other district managers).
- The annual plans of the stores in the District are challenging, achievable and in line with Mud Bay's annual goals and its long-term business strategy.
- Managers and managers-in-training in the District are effectively engaged in a challenging and comprehensive ongoing educational program.
Primary Duties
- Hire, develop, empower and evaluate retail managers and managers-in-training for the District.
- Assist Mud Bay's leadership with decisions regarding retention and separation of retail managers and managers-in-training.
- Maintain a close, functional working relationship with managers and managers-in-training in the District; this relationship includes, but is not limited to, review meetings and regular phone conversations.
- Create, update, expand and improve the tools and information used by retail managers and store staff in operating their stores.
- Maintain a direct knowledge of the people, operations, performance, and fundamental nature of each store in the District through extended regular visits, numerical analysis and other means.
- Collaborate across Mud Bay in creating, updating, expanding and improving the educational programs for managers, managers-in-training and store staff.
- Assist managers in the development and execution of quarterly and annual plans.
- Identify stores, retail managers and staff that are troubled, underperforming or at risk and take appropriate action up to and including termination of managers and staff, caretaking leaderless stores and turning around troubled locations.
- Assist in the selection of group goals and operational plans that support and further Mud Bay's strategic plan.
- Plan, set and manage budgets for stores in applicable district.
- Ensure the effective and timely execution of marketing programs.
- Ensure that stores are operating at optimal efficiency with exceptional service.
Additional Duties
- Plan and conduct managers' meetings.
- Assist in developing, teaching, and evaluating staff bonus programs.
- Help to develop and administer other "staff happiness" programs.
- Assist in the coordination and scheduling of staff events.
- Ensure that managers are completing and following shift schedules.

- Maturity, discretion, judgment and the ability to maintain confidentiality when appropriate
- Strong math, analytical and problem-solving skills
- Proficiency with MS Word, Excel
- Strong organizational and time-management skills
- B.A., B.S. degree or equivalent experience
