Purpose/Function/Scope

The Marketing Manager aids in the development, execution and evaluation of external marketing that seeks to create and retain customers, increase sales and build Mud Bay's brand.  As a member of the Marketing and Sales Group, the Marketing Manager collaborates to create marketing programs that shape and enhance the happy, educational customer-staff experience that are the heart of Mud Bay.

Primary Accountabilities*

  • Mud Bay’s marketing grows Mud Bay’s sales by contributing to the lives of dogs, cats and their owners.
  • Our entire organization understands the experiences we want to provide to the dog and cat owners who visit our stores and how well we are—and aren’t—doing at creating those experiences.
  • Mud Bay's marketing programs create opportunities for Mud Bay-style customer-staff experiences.
  • Mud Bay's marketing is interesting, innovative and aesthetic.

*  The decision as to which of these accountabilities will be held by the Marketing Manager alone and which will be shared with the Director of Marketing or held by the Director of Marketing alone will be made     at the time of the new Marketing Manager's 90-day review.

Additional Accountabilities

  • An ever expanding knowledge of consumer advertising and retail marketing.
  • A keen understanding of the demographics, neighborhood feel and marketing opportunities of each Mud Bay location.
  • Representing Mud Bay in a manner that is professional and that's in keeping with Mud Bay's core values.
  • Mud Bay's marketing programs are communicated effectively to Mud Bay staff and our customers.

Primary Duties

  • Oversee and maintain ongoing marketing programs, such as our charitable donation program, community event participation and shelter program.
  • Aid in the development, communication, execution, analysis and refinement of Mud Bay's marketing strategy. 
  • Actively involved in the development, execution, analysis and refinement of marketing initiatives including such current programs as the Healthy Dog & Cat Almanac, shelter program, events, radio, print advertising, phone book listings and charitable donations.
  • Collaborate effectively with the other members of the Marketing and Sales Group to achieve short- and long-term marketing and sales goals.
  • Collaborate with regional coordinators and retail store managers and store staff to help stores achieve sales goals.

Additional Duties

  • Share work of other members of the Marketing and Sales Group as needed to insure success and timeliness of deliverables.
  • Observe and work with customer and staff in stores in order to discover opportunities and measure effectiveness of marketing in the field
  • Maintain a press book, media morgue and other Mud Bay marketing archives

  • Proficiency with MS Word, Excel – knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite a plus
  • B.A., B.S. or equivalent experience
  • Valid WA driver’s license, clean driving record, and current Washington state liability insurance
