Purpose/Function/Scope

Mud Bay's Training and Development Specialist reports to the Director of Staff Development and is responsible for developing, coordinating and formatting all Mud Bay training materials.  These materials cover initial and on-going education and development programs that will contribute to creating a happy and challenging workplace for all staff and be crucial for creating a superb Mud Bay customer experience.  Training delivery methods will include CBT, distance learning and/or instructor-led formats.

Primary Accountabilities

  • All Mud Bay training materials are instructionally sound, communicate learning concepts, effectively hold audience attention and have been reviewed for accuracy.
  • Active, happy collaboration with other members of the Staff Development Group on training needs assessments and other group training initiatives.
  • Maintain timely and continuing communication with Mud Bay's Director of Staff Development regarding all duties and areas of responsibility.

Additional Accountabilities

  • Helps to ensure that the Staff Development Group goals and operational plans support and further Mud Bay's strategic plan. 
  • Helps to determine the best format and approaches to realize all Mud Bay training goals.

Primary Duties

  • Research content and glean information from written, verbal presentation, documentation and/or subject area expert sources.
  • Organize training and development content using creative message design principles to support learning objectives.
  • Develop materials, courseware, timelines and departmental budget contributions as assigned.
  • Help to coach, mentor and support store and admin staff in activities that education, inspire and develop customer or job-relevant knowledge.
  • Produce, maintain and prepare training materials.

Additional Duties

  • Provide functional expertise to other Mud Bay groups.
  • Assist with the development, capture and analysis of training metrics.
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of the Mud Bay experience for both staff and customers.
  • Help train other Mud Bay staff in how to train.
  • As assigned, conduct, guide and/or audit store staff and admin training and provide timely, direct and constructive feedback.  

Primary Qualifications

  • A minimum of one year of experience using the concepts, practices and procedures within Instructional Systems/Message Design.
  • A minimum of three years work experience in a training-related field.
  • Ability to apply the ADDIE model to course development.
  • Excellent visual layout abilities.
  • Excellent presentation, written and verbal communication skills with an abiding commitment to sharing information.
  • Ability to collaborate and interact with all Mud Bay staff in a happy and respectful way.
  • Strong math, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency with MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Captivate.
  • Ability and willingness to learn Access.
  • Strong time-management skills.
  • B.A., B.S. degree or equivalent experience.
  • A valid WA driver's license and WA state liability insurance.
  • Some travel may be required.
